Bluenose II attends Mobility Cup at Lunenburg Yacht Club

Bluenose II is currently anchored in Princes Inlet near the Lunenburg Yacht Club in support of the Mobility Cup. This annual regatta sailed by persons with physical disabilities is in Nova Scotia year. We last attended the event at the Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney. Of course their hospitality was in true Cape Breton style and it was an honour to be a part of. Lunenburg County is holding up their end this year and the welcome has been great!

 

A Jaunt to St. Peter’s & Arichat

On National Acadian Day, we were in Arichat on Cape Breton Island and the Acadian Flag was flying from the Starboard forward spreader. Celebrating days like National Acadian Day helps develop a sense of community and foster pride in heritage. I have seen in the past where crew were embarrassed of their Acadian heritage, and they would refuse to speak French. In the last number of years I see young Acadians willingly speaking French and discussing their heritage.

A memorable trip to Southwest Nova Scotia

Time marches on and it's difficult to imagine that the crew are half way through their six month season with us. They have grown and changed a great deal and are currently living a life they could not really imagine when they interviewed for the position in the mid winter. What a life changing experience for a young person — it certainly changed mine!
